So... Metallica or Apocalyptica?

I actually tied the two straps together with a wire so they wouldn't slip off the sides. Those speakers are going NOWHERE.
That is more for my safety than theirs... I don't want a speaker to the back of the head in a collision.

Reminds me of a friend we once had back in Ireland - he replaced the central rear seat in his Rover 800 with a subwoofer.

Without an amp isn't this pointless? Your head unit is pushinh 15-25 watts max. Go buy an amp\ box with two 10' or 12's and call it a day. Its what we all did when we were 16-24. You will enjoy the feels of a real system. No need for aftermarket head unit just get the converter for the rear speakers wires to rca output and you still get to keep all the factory goodness and bump at the same time.
![]() 11/09/2014 at 22:19 |
|
Why? I don't give a shit about volume, and 15-20 watts is fine. I'm not a basshead, I just wanted fuller sound than the 6x9s in the back were able to deliver, and to look ridiculous while doing it.
Also, this all cost $15.
![]() 11/09/2014 at 22:24 |

Seriously dude, listen to him. Just get the cheapest amp you can find but it will make a HUGE difference. The sound will be much fuller with the ability to tune it to your liking. Find a cheap amp on craigslist or something, you won't regret it.
![]() 11/09/2014 at 22:25 |

you have succeeded at looking ridiculous carry on:) but seseriously an amp and a single sub really brings alive a factory system and can all be done for +\- 50$ given the amount of craigslist systems for sale. Its not about the bass i listen to all music and it all sounds better with the full spectrum of sound

Could I hook up an amp to full-range speakers like this, or is that not advisable?
![]() 11/09/2014 at 22:42 |

My favorite system I rocked was a 200w amp and 2 10 inch ss kicker's in a box with horn tweeters on a 20 foot length of cable in the trunk of a ford tempo.. Any place any time pop the trunk and you had a full on concert experience. Would park on an incline and rock it till the battery died and just pop start it when it was time to go. That said no you should not hook your house speakers up to a car amp just doesn't work well. Something something ohms.

From the title, I thought you had done something cool like I did to my fox body vert
At least my back seats were still functional, but with 1000W amp I wouldn't sit back there.

People have suggested I do like what Pimp My Ride did with a Buick where they replaced the back seats with unreasonable amounts of speakers. I did the same thing, just on a much smaller budget.
Aka murdersofa style.

Dude... you have two enormous cabinet speakers laying horizontal in your backseat, held in place by seatbelts wired together "for safety," and your asking if adding an amp is advisable???? rofl.

Rockford Fosgate Speaker Line To Female RCA Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G352P2C/…
8 bucks for the converter and grab the cheapest amp/sub package you can get on clist (make sure you insist on getting ALL the cabling) you will be happy I promise. You will be able to turn your bass well into the negatives and crank the volume to get a nice overall sound I promise.

I've been checking Craigslist... looks like I'll need $75 at the minimum to buy an amp and sub.

lowball the oldest posts. Just say no disrespect I'm poor and send a pic of what your rocking. When your done with a system they are somewhat worthless so they are just trying to recoup what they can. Tell them I'msure you will eventually sell it but if you want 40, 50 whatever you can spring then I will meet you asap and do the deal. It will work eventually be honest and respectful and someone will hook you up. I know I would if it were feasible.

I did that with my Prelude (it was my first car). one of the best mods I ever did to the thing, lol.

It sounds amazing. Not much bass, but bass makes my interior rattle so... yay?
![]() 11/10/2014 at 09:42 |

Yeah bass can easily be "achieved". A fuller sound isn't as easy. Have you considered bolting them together just to keep the them as one bigger box? And you can disassemble it easy with a couple of nuts in case you need to take them out of the car.
I might also recommend turning the top most speaker to face upwards. Get some acoustics going through the car instead of directly to you :) some cars even make it sound better due to their shape.

Im going to be getting a couple L brackets and pointing the second speaker skyward. That's the one with the cardboard back and I figure the klipsch would reinforce it.
![]() 11/10/2014 at 11:20 |

That's a great idea actually. I read some of the comments speaking about getting an amp, what is your mindset or thought about that? While not necessary, it would help the quality since there's less distortion. you can usually pick up an amp for $75 at most that will do the job
![]() 11/10/2014 at 12:03 |

My thoughts? I'd like one, it would be fun for my dubstep I listen to, it would go really well with the speaker I have
But...
that costs money.
I've been lookin on Craigslist and it would be $50-75 at least to get an amp and a sub, then I'd have to most likely get a new head unit due to my stock radio having no line-out of any kind, so add another $60-70 onto that *At least*.
So it's possible, and I'd like to do it, but that's a lot of money I would much rather spend on cams, water/meth injection, or a tuning license. So unless someone randomly approaches me with an amp for $20 and someone else has a subwoofer and box for $25... I might do it. If I were to not use a new head unit I'd probably have to get a splitter from my phone to send a signal to the stock unit, and a duplicate signal backwards to the sub, but then I lose the ability to control volume from my stock stereo. Then again, line outs are usually not volume controlled anyways.

Negative sir, its much simpler than that. I too like music, and have seen hard days on $. So I learned a few tricks lol. There's something called LOC (Line Out Converter) which basically you can splice into ANY speaker wire of your choice, and bam you got your line out. Those run like 15 last I checked. But yeah, I mean a $50 amp with the line out converter, you're out less than 80 with a heck of a better sound system. But as you said, there are other options to spend money on
![]() 11/10/2014 at 12:37 |

I was kind of wondering if some resistors and capacitors on the speaker wire could take it down to line level, but I didn't know what a device was called. That makes things much more feasible.
